KV Mechelen poised to land Lierse winger Van Meirvenne
The Mechelen offices buzzed late on Tuesday as KV Mechelen edged closer to their first summer signing. According to Het , Malinwa are on the brink of finalising a deal for Cedric Van Meirvenne, the 21-year-old winger who made waves at Lierse last season.
KV Mechelen appear to have secured their first summer arrival. Het Malinwa are within touching distance of an agreement with Van Meirvenne, the 21-year-old winger who impressed during his breakthrough campaign at Lierse and now looks set to cash in with a move to the Jupiler Pro League.
The Mechelen side have been working on the dossier for some time. While interest from abroad was also noted, KV Mechelen managed to sway the player earlier with their project. Clubs are now said to have reached an accord and Van Meirvenne has completed his medical tests, meaning an official announcement is imminent.
For Van Meirvenne, the move would cap a rapid rise. The Belgian winger began his youth career at Beerschot before switching to Jong KAA Gent. He then joined KRC Gent in the summer of 2024 before Lierse signed him a year later.
His breakthrough came at Lierse. Van Meirvenne featured 28 times in the Challenger Pro League last season, scoring four goals and providing three assists. His pace and dribbling drew attention from multiple clubs.
Het reports Lierse will receive a transfer fee that, including potential add-ons, could total around one million euros. For the Pallieters, that represents a substantial financial boost barely a year after they signed the winger themselves.
At KV Mechelen, the transfer also signals a forward-looking move. The club is reportedly anticipating a possible exit for Myron van Brederode, who has attracted interest this summer.
Van Meirvenne’s arrival would strengthen Mechelen’s attacking options as they prepare for the new season in the top flight.
