Legal storm looms for Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy

🇪🇸

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy faces a criminal lawsuit after four of his dogs escaped from his farm in January 2023, injuring two dogs and a 17‑year‑old boy. Prosecutors are asking for a €1,200 fine, a €7,410 bail has been imposed and the case will be heard in criminal court number 26 of Madrid, with no hearing date set yet.

Mendy has been plagued by physical problems and has barely been available for a few games in the last two seasons. He is close to returning to training after recovering from his current injury, but it will still take several months before he is ready for competitive matches.

The four dogs involved were two mastiffs, a Turkish kangal and a bulldog. None of them carried an identification microchip, compulsory civil liability insurance, or a rabies vaccination.

A private prosecution firm engaged by the injured boy is demanding six months of prison time for Mendy. The prosecution is also seeking around €28,000 in compensation for the individuals affected by the incident.

The criminal case is already open, and a bail of €7,410 was imposed on the footballer. The matter will be tried in criminal court number 26 of Madrid, although a hearing date has not yet been set.

Real Madrid fans will recall Mendy’s role in the club’s last two UEFA Champions League triumphs. His on‑field contributions are now being eclipsed by legal and injury concerns.

The outcome of the trial remains uncertain, and the developments will be closely monitored by both the club and the public.
