Liverpool's £35m chase for Mateus Mane after Diomande deal stalls
Liverpool have tabled a £35 million offer for 18‑year‑old Wolves winger Mateus Mane, a move that follows their recent failure to secure Ivorian forward Yan Diomande. The bid underscores the Reds’ determination to reinforce their attack despite Diomande’s contract running to 2030 and his preference for Paris Saint‑Germain.
Yan Diomande, 19, was heavily courted by Liverpool, with Richard Hughes reportedly submitting a bid of up to €100 million. RB Leipzig rejected the offer and Diomande has indicated a desire to join Paris Saint‑Germain, though his contract extends to 2030.
Liverpool’s scouting network also lists Bundesliga prospects Said El Mala and Bazoumana Toure as potential signings. Additional names under consideration include French midfielder Bradley Barcola and Bournemouth forward Rayan.
Mateus Mane, who turned 18 last season, enjoyed a breakout Premier League campaign, featuring both centrally and on the wing for Wolves. He is tied to Wolves until 2029, offering Liverpool a long‑term option.
According to a report, the Wolves board will automatically reject any offers below £30 million. “Market speculation even suggests that this valuation barrier could shift towards £35 million in the event of a bidding war between several clubs,” the source added.
Borussia Dortmund have held exploratory talks about a possible deal for Mane, while Eintracht Frankfurt also expressed interest. Both German clubs could compete with Premier League suitors for the youngster’s signature.
Scouts from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United compiled extensive dossiers on Mane’s performance data last season. “However, none of these Premier League giants have yet submitted a concrete offer to Wolves,” the report noted.
Mane recorded three Premier League goals and two assists during Wolves’ campaign, highlighting his attacking contribution.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Mane reflects a crowded summer market where clubs across Europe are targeting young talent to bolster their squads.
