Lothar Matthäus condemns Michael Olise's expulsion by Viking Stavanger
While Bayern Munich were looking to consolidate their lead in the Champions League, Michael Olise was sent off against Viking Stavanger, sparking Lothar Matthäus's anger. The double from Harry Kane and the goal from Luis Diaz had allowed the Bavarians to regain a two‑goal advantage, but Olise's gesture changed everything. Vincent Kompany, club official, immediately deemed the Frenchman's attitude unacceptable.
World champion's criticism
Lothar Matthäus, former German international, said in the columns that Olise's behaviour was “unacceptable, even if the referee didn’t see it”. He reminded that a player of Olise’s calibre could not afford such a gesture, especially when the opponent is trying to provoke him. Matthäus added that defenders often try to test the patience of the best players, but he refuses to accept that excuse.
The gesture that cost dearly
After a foul, Olise struck the ball at the face of Zlatko Tripić, Stavanger’s captain, who had provoked him. The incident resulted in Olise being sent off in the 90th minute, while Bayern were leading 2‑0 in Norway. Stavanger equalised in the 90th minute, turning the score to 3‑3.

Club and official reactions
Vincent Kompany delivered a statement similar to Matthäus’s, deeming his player fully responsible for his dismissal. Bayern will now have to respond against Leipzig, then against Arsenal in the Champions League, without Olise available.
Matthäus concluded by stating that the incident mainly harmed the team, recalling that “in the end, he hurt himself, but especially the team”. This condemnation underscores the seriousness of the gesture and the repercussions for the German club.
