Luis Binks' Scotland call-up proves globe‑trotting ambition pays off
Globetrotter Luis Binks, the 25‑year‑old captain of Danish club Brondby, announced on 15 September 2026 that his first Scotland senior call‑up is ‘a dream come true’, describing it as proof that perseverance pays off. He made the remarks last night after learning of the selection by new Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli.
Globetrotter's career journey
Binks spent his formative years in the youth academy of Tottenham Hotspur before moving to North America in 2020 to join Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact. He later added Italian experience with spells at Bologna and Como, and a stint at Coventry City, before settling at Brondby.
Since arriving in Copenhagen, the centre‑back has become a regular starter and was handed the Brondby captaincy. His performances helped the club, which finished fourth in the Danish Superliga last term, catch the eye of Scotland’s new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli.
Born in Gillingham, Binks qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather. He admitted the early months at Brondby were difficult, but believes the move to another country was worthwhile after earning the international recognition.
Captaincy and Scotland call‑up
Reflecting on his decision to relocate, Binks said: ‘I can't say it's been a bad choice because, since I've been here, I've been named the captain of Brondby and I've now been called up to Scotland.’ He added that he is not afraid of new cultures and aims to make a difference for the national side.
He called the call‑up ‘a dream come true’ and an honour for his family, noting that representing a country feels different from club football. ‘You're not just representing a club or anything like that. You're representing a whole country. It's another level,’ he explained.
Binks previously represented both Scotland and England at under‑16 and under‑18 level, highlighting his long‑standing ambition to play international football.
He thanked Rangers defender Ben Godfrey for aiding his development during their time together at Brondby last season. Binks told Flashscore that a difficult spell after the winter period saw him keep several clean sheets, improve his defensive performances and learn the broader responsibilities of captaincy beyond merely wearing an armband. He also noted that the leadership role has sharpened his tactical awareness.
