Marseille's new era: Bruno Genesio signs until 2028 now
Olympique de Marseille have appointed French tactician Bruno Genesio as head coach, succeeding interim manager Habib Beye, with a contract running to June 2028. The 59‑year‑old, who led LOSC Lille last season, faces the task of reversing a troubled Ligue 1 campaign.
Bruno Genesio said: "I chose to join Olympique de Marseille because I was attracted by the challenge presented to me." He added that the club is unique with an exceptional history, a strong identity and supporters whose passion is recognised beyond its borders.
Genesio expressed happiness to take part in the new project and thanked owner Frank McCourt, president Stephane Richard and sporting director Gregory Lorenzi for their trust. He said he is eager to start work with all club teams and the players to build a squad matching the club's ambitions.
The contract runs until June 2028, securing Genesio's tenure for several seasons. The appointment follows a difficult season for Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1, where the club seeks to redress the situation.
Sporting director Gregory Lorenzi explained that Genesio's selection "imposed itself naturally" during discussions. He highlighted the coach's experience, knowledge of top‑level football and capacity to assemble competitive teams as aligning with Marseille's ambitions.
Lorenzi added that both share a common vision on football, player development and building a durable, high‑performing squad. He promised close collaboration to construct a group capable of meeting the club's demands and supporters' expectations.
Olympique de Marseille officially welcomed Bruno Genesio and extended best wishes for success in his new role. The club reiterated its commitment to achieving its objectives under the new leadership.
