Marsiglia Genesio warns that the Europa League does not snub
Coach Bruno Genesio spoke at tomorrow evening's press conference, when Olympique de Marseille will face Besiktas at 21:00 in the first Europa League match. The atmosphere is tense at the Marseille home, where the team arrives after three consecutive defeats.
Reduced by a difficult run of three defeats in the last three games, the men of Genesio appear without certainty against the Turkish club. The coach answered the question about seasonal ambitions by saying that "it is not up to me" to set the targets, sending a clear message to the management.
Financial situation and objectives
In serious financial difficulty, OM has had a hectic summer only on the outgoing side: "The first objective was to get in order with the financial bodies", Genesio explained, adding that this involved several departures and zero signings. In the last twenty years the club is the only French team involved in a European cup that has not been able to sign even a single player.
The 60-year-old highlighted the need for "clarity and even more patience", stating that the main objectives are financial stability and the recovery of confidence. Despite the difficulties and the turnover already announced for the first matchday, he guaranteed maximum commitment.
"We do not snub the Cup, we will play it wholeheartedly as I have always done at the clubs I have managed", Genesio concluded, adding that the competition can help us regain confidence and get through the first phase.
