Memphis and Zakaria Labyad welcome Renato Sanches to Corinthians

While Renato Sanches (29) leaves behind a glittering European career, he is about to start his first adventure outside Europe at Corinthians, a club that after 28 matchdays sits in fourteenth place and has not recorded a win since August 21.

New step to Brazil

reports that the Portuguese midfielder is well on his way to the Brazilian side, where he will play alongside Memphis Depay and Zakaria Labyad. Corinthians has already submitted two proposals to the player. The rumor stream is confirmed by German media, including Sky Germany and TZ.

Previously Sanches shone as the Golden Boy‑winner in 2016 and won the European Championship with Portugal. He was bought that same year for 35 million euros from Benfica to Bayern Munich. His career includes spells at Lille, Benfica, Bayern Munich, PSG, AS Roma, Swansea City and Panathinaikos.

Corinthians in trouble

The club is struggling with an extremely poor run: in the last seven competitive matches no win has been recorded, and in the Copa Libertadores a crucial penalty was missed by Memphis in the final stages. These setbacks have brought the club close to the relegation zone.

Besides Corinthians, Sanches was also linked with Getafe, where he held advanced talks but reached no agreement. He also received offers from Saudi Arabia and the MLS, which he has turned down.

After terminating his contract with Paris Saint‑Germain last summer, Sanches is now a free agent. Corinthians has made a second contract proposal, while other Série A‑clubs also show interest.
