Mexican clubs dominate Leagues Cup quarterfinals, set all-Mexican semis

Mexican clubs have secured their places in the Leagues Cup semifinals, guaranteeing an all‑Mexican showdown after both Toluca and Club America recorded 2‑0 victories in Wednesday’s quarter‑finals. The wins came at the expense of MLS side Austin FC and the Columbus Crew, leaving no American team in the last four.

MLS clubs had captured the previous three Leagues Cup titles.

This year’s semifinals will feature only Mexican teams, an unprecedented all‑Mexican affair.

Both quarter‑final matches were played on Wednesday.

Toluca defeated Austin FC 2‑0 in Wednesday’s quarter‑final match.

Austin’s Joseph Rosales was shown a red card in the 40th minute and Ilie Sánchez received a second dismissal in the 74th.

Toluca’s work was made easier by the red cards to Austin’s Joseph Rosales and Ilie Sánchez.

Toluca took the lead on a 53rd‑minute penalty scored by Helinho after Oleksandr Svatok fouled Jesús Ángulo.

Toluca’s second strike came from Jorge Díaz Price in stoppage time, sealing the 2‑0 win.

Club America’s parallel triumph

Club America also advanced, beating the Columbus Crew 2‑0 on Wednesday.

The tournament is the Leagues Cup, featuring clubs from MLS and Liga MX.
