Monza eye experienced Brazil keeper Gabriel Vasconcelos as Serie A boost
Brazilian goalkeeper Gabriel Vasconcelos, 33, is on the verge of signing for Monza in Itália after amicably terminating his contract with Vitória in August. The former Serie A shot‑stopper has been linked with the newly promoted side as they ready their squad for the top flight.
Monza's goalkeeping need
According to a report by RTI Esporte, negotiations with Monza’s officials are still under way. A Foto by Victor Ferreira/ captured Vasconcelos during his farewell at Vitória, and the Agência confirmed the amicable termination in August. Os Monza squad, fresh from a playoff promotion to Serie A, are bolstering their roster and see Vasconcelos as a viable option for the goalkeeper position.
Vasconcelos' Italian pedigree
Valerio Fiori, Monza’s goalkeeping coach, previously worked with Vasconcelos at Milan, a link that could smooth the transition. The Brazilian was revealed by Cruzeiro before moving to Italy as a youngster, beginning his European career at Milan. He later featured for Carpi 1909, Empoli, Perugia, Lecce, Napoli and Cagliari, meaning Monza would become his eighth Italian club.
Vasconcelos returned to Brazilian football in 2022 with Coritiba, then spent spells at Juventude, Vitória and Sport. At the Bahia club he arrived in 2025 and faced strong competition from Lucas Arcanjo, limiting his opportunities. He made 14 appearances for Vitória and also featured while on loan at Sport before ending his short spell.
Jair Ventura’s plans did not include Vasconcelos, and the keeper stopped training regularly with the group. The ongoing talks reported by RTI Esporte suggest the move to Monza offers a fresh opportunity after a three‑year period in Brazil.
If the transfer materialises, Vasconcelos will return to Italy, bringing extensive experience that could help Monza stabilise their defence in the upcoming Serie A campaign.
