Müller and Lewandowski deliver MLS showdown of the Bayern legends
On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the two former Bayern stars Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski met for the first time as opponents in Major League Soccer. The make‑up match between Chicago Fire and Vancouver Whitecaps promised a reunion of the German legends.
Early action and second half
Jonathan Bamba put the hosts ahead already in the ninth minute, so Chicago early took control of the game. After the break Philip Zinckernagel increased the lead to 2‑0, before Vancouver, through Mathías Laborda, once again raised hopes.
Müller initially had to take a seat on the bench and was substituted in at halftime. Lewandowski, on the other hand, only came onto the pitch for the final quarter hour. Shortly after his substitution, the Pole delivered the pass to Maren Haile‑Selassie that led to the 3‑1 in the 88th minute.
After the match, the Western Conference lead of the Whitecaps remained unchanged, while Chicago moved up to fourth place in the Eastern Conference with the win and also stays in the playoff race.
