Musah What Amorim lauds Milan revival after World Cup snub
Yunus Musah says Ruben Amorim’s pre‑season text proved genuine, sparking a strong start at Milan and a return to the USMNT after the painful 2026 World Cup omission.
Amorim’s reassurance pays off
Amorim texted Musah before preseason, telling him he wanted him to stay at the club. Musah recalled thinking it might be a generic promise, but as training progressed he saw regular minutes and frequent talks, confirming the manager’s sincerity.
“I thought maybe [he was] just saying this like other managers just to keep you there at the club,” Musah admitted. “But actually as preseason was going on, I saw that I was playing a lot, he was talking to me a lot, and it was true.” He added that the season‑opening minutes and starts have reinforced his belief that managers’ faith is vital.
World Cup snub fuels USMNT return
Left out of the United States national team for the 2026 World Cup last summer, the American midfielder used the setback as motivation. He featured against Peru and Mexico in two of the USMNT’s three most recent fixtures, earning a place in the squad for the current break.
“Not going through the World Cup was tough, and as the season went on, I could sense it because I wasn’t coming into any camps and I wasn’t playing at Atalanta as well,” Musah said, recalling his loan spell at Atalanta before joining Milan. He described his summer holiday in Ghana and Zanzibar as a period of disconnect, returning only in the final week to train for Milan’s preseason.
Musah has made six appearances for Milan so far this season, totalling 419 minutes on the pitch, and his contract at San Siro runs until June 2028. The midfielder’s confidence was evident during the Serie A clash on March 08, 2025, when Tete Morente of Lecce contested a ball with him at Stadio Via del Mare in Lecce, Italy – March.
