My future is with the US – Cole Campbell will play for the USA
The 20‑year‑old Elversberg striker Cole Campbell has made it clear that his future lies with the US national team. After his decision, which he emphasized in a digital round on Tuesday with the words “My future is with the US”, he hopes for a first appearance in the upcoming friendly matches.
The summary of his statement makes it clear that he is firmly determined to play for the USA. The word Play appears in the video player of the interview.
Nationality and Switch
Campbell is eligible for both the United States and Iceland because his family has ties to both countries. He initially played for Iceland in the U‑17 team before switching sides in 2022 and has since been active for the USA in the U‑19, U‑20 and U‑23 age groups.
"I have already made my decision to switch to the US team," he said in conversation with Sebastian Bach. "There were many reasons, but my future is with the USA," he added, emphasizing that he has no second thoughts. Campbell stresses that the US team is his priority.
Campbell praised the support of the US federation and described the atmosphere as “exceptional” and the coaches as well as the staff as “great”, which he cites as a decisive factor for his switch.
Club career and outlook
His debut was a victory, in which he contributed the decisive goal in a 3‑2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Since his summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund to the newly promoted SV Elversberg, he has scored one goal in three Bundesliga matches.
Previously, his season at Hoffenheim was hampered by an ankle injury, which limited him to five appearances in the second half of the season.
Campbell hails from Houston, Texas, and sees his return at full fitness as an opportunity to attract the attention of the US national team.
He hopes that his form and fitness will place him in coach Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the upcoming US friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico and Canada.
"I grew up in the USA; it would be an honour and a dream to represent my country," he said, adding that he "prays that I soon receive my first call-up".
