Palmeiras eyes Juventus midfielder Arthur as contract nears end

Brazilian midfielder Arthur, 30, is set to leave Juventus before his contract expires on 30 June 2027, as the Italian club moves to terminate his deal, while Palmeiras in São Paulo has received his name and is analysing a possible signing.

Arthur remains under contract with Juventus until 30 June 2027, but the club has confirmed he is not in its future plans. The player is expected to depart the squad before the contract’s end, with both sides aiming for an amicable termination.

Palmeiras evaluates Arthur’s fit

Palmeiras received the midfielder’s indication and has begun assessing his technical and tactical suitability. The board is also weighing the financial implications of a potential acquisition, though no formal offer has been made at this stage.

The club’s approach mirrors its recent pursuit of Danilo from Botafogo, where it stipulated that a signing would only proceed if a vacancy arose. This ‘either he comes, or no one’ policy underscores the conditional nature of the Arthur move.

Financial hurdles and past interest

Grêmio tried to retain Arthur after his loan, but the estimated cost of around R$100 million for two and a half years proved prohibitive. The midfielder’s salary was reported to be between R$2 million and R$2.5 million.

Corinthians also expressed interest, yet the high price tag led the club to abandon negotiations. The financial demands remained a decisive factor in both Brazilian suitors’ decisions.

After the loan spell, Arthur returned to Italy and featured in friendly matches to regain fitness. Nevertheless, Juventus did not incorporate him into its plans for the upcoming season.

Arthur’s résumé includes spells at Barcelona, Liverpool, Fiorentina and Girona, as well as call‑ups for the Brazil national team. These experiences continue to attract attention from clubs abroad and in Brazil.

Should Juventus and Arthur reach a mutual termination, the midfielder would become a free agent and could join a new side without a transfer fee. Palmeiras will decide whether his profile justifies the investment as the market window remains open.
