Panathinaikos targets Moroccan left-back with €7 million buy option

Anass Salah-Eddine, a 24-year-old Moroccan international, makes the move from AS Roma to Panathinaikos. The Greek club confirmed a season‑long loan with a purchase option of €7 million, which can rise to €8 million with bonuses. The deal, announced through official channels, gives the 24-year-old left‑back the chance to prove himself in Athens.

The transfer is the final step in a season full of uncertainty for the defender.

No future in Rome

The move had been hanging in the balance for some time, because Salah‑Eddine saw no future left in Rome. Earlier this summer he turned down offers from West Ham United and Olympiakos. Panathinaikos eventually succeeded in convincing him. The transfer takes him from Rome to Athens.

Financial and contractual details

Panathinaikos has a purchase option of seven million euros, with the possibility of one million euros in bonuses. Fabrizio Romano reported that the Greek top club can sign the defender permanently after the loan season. The option applies for one season.

Salah‑Eddine remains contractually bound to AS Roma until mid‑2028. After the season, the Italian club can choose to bring him back or let him go permanently. The long‑term agreement offers Roma flexibility.

Roma paid at the beginning of 2025 roughly €8.5 million to FC Twente to bring the left‑back to the Italian capital. However, his stay in Rome turned out to be no success; he featured only three times for the main side.

Last season he was on loan at PSV, where he made an impression. The Eindhoveners wanted to sign him permanently, but the defender did not see a longer stay in the Netherlands.

In Athens the former Ajax player now gets the chance to get his career back on track. Panathinaikos hopes he will strengthen the defence and adapt quickly to the Greek league.

The club welcomed him with a tweet: “Welcome to Athens, Anass ☘️🏛️ #Panathinaikos #PAOFC”. Fans hope for a successful start for the Moroccan international.
