Porto ready to abandon Gimenez chase after Milan spurns €15m offer, citing lack of progress

Porto are prepared to walk away from negotiations for Mexico international Santiago Gimenez after AC Milan rejected a €15 million loan‑with‑option offer earlier this week, reports in Portugal say. The proposal covered a season‑long loan and a future purchase clause. Porto had been among several clubs monitoring the striker.

Porto's interest in Gimenez

Porto had been listed as one of the clubs interested in Gimenez, who arrived at Milan from Feyenoord in the winter of 2025 for €32 million plus add‑ons. The Mexican forward was seen as a potential solution to Porto’s need for a centre‑forward. Reports say the Portuguese side began exploring alternative options after the Milan offer was turned down.

Milan's stance and price expectations

Gimenez is considered surplus at the San Siro after Milan completed a club‑record signing of Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint‑Germain earlier this window. The Portuguese club now seeks a buyer for the Mexico international.

Milan turned down Porto’s proposal that consisted of an initial season‑long loan with an option to buy for €15 million. The Italian side is reportedly looking for a loan fee for the 2026‑27 season and an option or obligation to purchase in the €20‑million to €25‑million range.

Following the rejected offer, Porto have started contacting other centre‑forward targets,
