Portugal beat Chile 2-1 as Rafael Leão and Iván Román red-carded
Portugal opened their World Cup preparation with a 2-1 friendly win over Chile at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras.
Rafael Leão and Chile's Iván Román were both shown straight red cards for involvement in the same scuffle, with Leão's suspension applying to the upcoming friendly against Nigeria and potentially the World Cup start.
If Leão accumulates more than one suspension, he will miss the start of the World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo started for Portugal, but his 41‑year‑old record‑breaking goal was ruled out for off‑side and his subsequent free‑kick struck the wall.
He was substituted at the 0‑0 half‑time break as Portugal pressed forward in the second half.
Substitute Gonçalo Guedes restored the lead with a quick footwork finish, and Bruno Fernandes doubled the advantage with a strike from outside the penalty area.
Chile's Lucas Cepeda added a consolation goal in injury time to make the final score 2-1.
