Racing and Inter lock in 2027 loan deal as Carboni battles back from ACL injury

Racing Club and Inter Milan have signed a new agreement extending winger Valentín Carboni’s loan until the end of 2027, even though the Argentine is still rehabilitating from a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament that limited him to five appearances in 2026.

Financial terms of the extension

Racing confirmed to Olé that the extension, which runs until the end of 2027 and replaces the deal that expires at the close of this year, mirrors the conditions of the current arrangement. For every four matches Carboni plays for at least 20 minutes, the Academia will receive $200,000 from Inter Milan as a ‘vidriera’ fee.

Since his arrival earlier this year, Racing has collected that payment only once, after the winger reached his fourth appearance in a match Contra Banfield on 14 February. He entered the game at the 19‑minute mark, replacing Tomás Conechny, and the club recorded the milestone payment.

Prior to that fixture Carboni had featured in four games, but only three lasted more than 20 minutes – against Gimnasia LP, Rosario Central and Tigre. Against Argentinos he logged a solitary minute from the bench, underscoring his curtailed involvement.

Injury setbacks and recovery

Carboni suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a partial tear of the external collateral in February during training. He opted to undergo rehabilitation at the Racing Academia, citing the supportive environment of the Avellaneda club where he felt very contained.

Before joining Racing, the Argentine winger logged limited minutes at Genoa in Italy, a club to which he was always loaned from Inter. He made 15 appearances in 2025, six of them as a starter, and arrived at the Academia with the ambition of impressing enough to regain his place in the national team for the World Cup.

Club officials say his dedication has accelerated recovery, but they will not rush his return, targeting November for his comeback. Another player, Alan Forneris, is also recovering from an ACL injury sustained on 10 May in a 1‑0 win over Estudiantes in the Torneo Apertura round of 16.
