Raúl Osella’s bond with Carlos Tevez brings fame and a Swiss job
Former Boca Juniors youth graduate Raúl Osella, who made a single Primera appearance in a 7‑2 defeat to Rosario Central in 2003, has become known for his close friendship with Carlos Tevez and now spends his days working in a Swiss coffee‑machine factory, far from football.
Early Boca days and friendship with Carlos Tevez
Osella first met Carlos Tevez when both attended a trial at Boca Juniors. The two shared countless moments at the Boca side and later with the Argentina national team, forging a bond that Osella describes as a defining part of his youth.
He made his official Primera debut in the infamous 7‑2 loss to Rosario Central in 2003, which remained his sole top‑flight appearance for Boca. After that, he transferred to Tiro Federal, contributing to the squad that secured promotion to the Primera Division.
Osella’s journeyman career continued abroad, with spells at Galbiatese Oggiono in Italy, two periods at Locarno in Switzerland, a stint at Tiro Federal de Morteros, and a final season wearing the Ibach jersey in the Swiss lower leagues. His time abroad gave him experience in both Italian lower leagues and the Swiss Challenge League.
Swiss factory work and newfound fame
Retiring at the age of 37 or 38, he settled in Switzerland where the club president offered him a job in his factory. For eight years he combined work with playing, eventually moving full‑time to manufacture coffee machines, many destined for the Starbucks chain.
The Netflix series chronicling Carlos Tevez’s life featured several of Osella’s recollections, thrusting him into the spotlight. “Que él haya contando esas cosas y que me nombre a mí en la serie, ¡muy loco! Que se acuerde él, después de todas las cosas que vivió, todas las cosas que ganó, los mundiales y todo, que se acuerde de esas cosas puntuales que hemos vivido cuando teníamos 17 años, 15 años… En ese momento vivíamos las cosas igual los dos”, Osella told Bolavip, noting that the mention made journalists rush to interview him. He continues to help in the production of coffee machines, primarily for the famous Starbucks chain. His daily duties involve assembling the coffee machines that supply the renowned coffee brand.
