Rayo turns down €15m Frankfurt bid for Mendy, keeping future open

🇪🇸

Rayo Vallecano have turned down a €15 million offer from Eintracht Frankfurt for Senegalese centre‑back Nobel Mendy, who joined the Spanish side on loan after a failed €4 million transfer to PSV Eindhoven last year. The defender, originally a Real Betis player, is now valued at many times the original fee.

A year ago PSV Eindhoven were close to signing Mendy for €4 million, but the transfer collapsed when the Senegalese failed to obtain a Dutch work permit. The deal fell through despite agreement among all parties.

At the time Mendy was under contract with Real Betis, and after the PSV move fell apart he secured a loan move to Rayo Vallecano. The loan gave the defender his first experience in La Liga.

Rayo, who reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final, later triggered a €3.5 million buy‑out clause in Mendy’s contract, giving them the right to sell the player for a higher fee. The clause means the club can command a price far above the original €4 million figure.

Eintracht Frankfurt submitted a €15 million bid for Mendy, which Rayo rejected outright. Club officials have not indicated whether any further negotiation is possible.

The rejection leaves Rayo with a substantial profit after just one season, while Mendy missed selection for Senegal’s World Cup squad. His future remains uncertain as the Spanish side evaluates its options.
