Real Madrid demands La Liga chief's resignation over Goebbels comparison
Real Madrid has again called for the dismissal of La Liga chairman Javier Tebas, after he compared the club’s communication strategy to the Nazi propaganda of Joseph Goebbels. The club says it is a lack of respect, neutrality and impartiality, and demands immediate resignation.
Comparison that fuels the flames
In a lengthy social media post, Tebas accused Real Madrid’s television channel of selecting footage that would work in the club’s favour. He wrote: “The script is always the same: they select footage that is to their advantage, stoke suspicion and point out enemies”, and added that this “reminds of the propaganda techniques used by Goebbels”.
Real Madrid responded sharply and said the comparison with Goebbels “missed the mark”. The club emphasized that Tebas had only focused on the club’s communication, not on an ideology or on the supporters.
Escalation between Tebas and the club
The tension between Tebas and Real chairman Florentino Pérez is not a new phenomenon; earlier this year the La Liga chairman already clashed with the club after a defeat to Atlético, during which Real fiercely criticised the refereeing. Coach José Mourinho showed photos of an alleged referee error during a press conference.
Real Madrid deems Tebas comparison with Nazi propaganda intolerable
In a new statement Tebas responded: “I have lost count of the number of times the Real Madrid board has asked for my resignation or tried to remove me from my position over the past thirteen years.” He also referred to the Negreira case, in which Barcelona between 2001 and 2018 paid roughly €7.5 million to companies linked to former vice‑president José María Enríquez Negreira.
Real Madrid says the club lets Tebas act too passively in that case and that he constantly picks on the referees. The club concludes that the “repeated behaviour of Javier Tebas demonstrates a lack of neutrality, respect and impartiality”.

With the call for immediate resignation, Real Madrid has opened a new chapter in the years‑long struggle between the club and the Spanish football authority.
