Richard Hughes narrows Liverpool centre-back shortlist to four

🇬🇧

Richard Hughes has trimmed Liverpool's centre‑back shortlist to four candidates. The names are Gonçalo Inácio, Sam Beukema, Luka Vušković and Murillo.

Liverpool, the outgoing Premier League champions, face a defensive gap after Ibrahima Konate's contract ends on June 30. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez each have only one year remaining on their deals, heightening the need for experienced reinforcements.

Gonçalo Inácio, 24, has spent his career at Sporting CP and remains under contract until 2030. Sam Beukema, a 27‑year‑old Dutch international, moved to Napoli from Bologna and also holds a contract through 2030. Luka Vušković, 19, is on loan at Hamburg, is owned by Tottenham Hotspur, and his deal runs until 2030, while Murillo, 23, joined Nottingham Forest from Corinthians in 2023 and is similarly contracted to 2030.

Richard Hughes previously added Giovanni Leoni, Mor Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Jeremy Jacquet to Liverpool's defensive ranks. The Dutch centre‑back Beukema was also pursued by former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot. Roberto De Zerbi has indicated that Tottenham will not retain Vušković long‑term.
