Robbery prevents Gulácsi's Champions League appearance at Villarreal
Péter Gulácsi, the 36-year-old former Bundesliga star, had to miss the match on Tuesday evening because of a robbery at his house in Spain. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, when he was at home with his wife and their two children.
Absence in the Champions League duel
Due to the burglary, Gulácsi was unavailable for the Champions League match between FC Villarreal and SSC Napoli. The club confirmed that nobody was physically injured, but the emotional strain prevented him from playing.
Gulácsi moved last summer from RB Leipzig to Villarreal and has since established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper. In his new home near Valencia, he lives with his family.
Instead of the Hungarian goalkeeper, the Brazilian Luiz Júnior had to take over the goal for Villarreal. The Spanish daily newspapers "" and "AS" reported on the incident and referred to the club's statement.
The 36-year-old keeper, who previously played for FC Salzburg, remains physically unharmed after the robbery, but is mentally affected. His absence could influence Villarreal's preparation for the next Champions League match.
