Romelu Lukaku promises transformation at Fenerbahçe after impressive international
34-year-old Romelu Lukaku is determined to make his mark at Fenerbahçe SK, after returning to Istanbul following the international break with a clear goal: to secure a starting place as quickly as possible.
International performances as a springboard
The Red Devil left an impression during the recent international against France, under the leadership of Mark van Bommel with the Red Devils. His goal against Turkey was praised by Ismail Kartal via Fotomac, which underscored the confidence in the Belgian striker.
Coach Kartal promises transformation
Fenerbahçe coach Ismail Kartal said that he has prepared a special program for Lukaku and that they will discuss the details as soon as he is back in Istanbul. He added: “Within three to four weeks, no one will recognize Lukaku any longer.”
The Turkish top club continues to believe in Lukaku’s qualities and denies rumours that he would be sold on during the winter transfer window. Various Turkish media previously reported that Fenerbahçe is looking for a solution for the striker, but the club confirms that there are no sale plans.
Lukaku made the move from SSC Napoli to Fenerbahçe last summer. So far he has accumulated only 194 minutes of play in eight official matches in the Turkish Süper Lig and the Champions League, without a goal or an assist.
With Vedat Muriqi, the 32-year-old Kosovar who is currently first choice at Fenerbahçe, Lukaku has a strong competitor. Muriqi has already made the ropes shake seven times.
The youth product of RSC Anderlecht, who made an impression early in his career, now hopes to turn his international experience into club performances and thus fulfill the expectations of both Turkish fans and Belgian supporters.
