Ronaldo rebukes Jorge Jesus as he likens himself to Pelé and Maradona

Silent since his sudden departure from the Portuguese camp a few days ago, Cristiano Ronaldo posted on Tuesday evening a very long message on his social media, where he denounces a severe disagreement with manager Jorge Jesus and compares himself to Pelé and Diego Maradona. The text, almost a book, lays out his version of events, shows his displeasure and reminds that he had already announced he wanted to stop after the 2026 World Cup.

Conflict with the manager

Ronaldo claims that the Portuguese Football Federation pushed him to stay, while he wanted to leave. He says he had several discussions with Jorge Jesus about how the latter intended to manage him, notably before the October 27 match against Norway. A deputy of Jesus allegedly promised thirty minutes of playing time, but Ronaldo remained on the bench and never came on.

Public reaction and apologies

After Ronaldo's anger, the manager allegedly agreed to speak publicly at a press conference. A document containing several points was said to have been drafted between the parties, including point six where Jesus was supposed to say: “I made a mistake by warming up someone of Pelé’s or Maradona’s stature before ultimately not bringing him on. If I had to do it again today, I would not do it.” Ronaldo notes that he never asked for a public apology, but he blames Jesus for not keeping his word a second time.

The five‑time Ballon d’Or winner, nicknamed CR7, concluded his message by offering several apologies, first to his teammates, then to Portuguese fans. He promises “one or more farewell matches” and assures that the “time for that” will be granted. Sincere apologies, he adds, are intended for the entire Portuguese people.

What the long message reveals

The text shows a Ronaldo who, despite his legendary status, feels treated like a mule by his coach. By comparing himself to Pelé and Maradona, he underscores the seriousness of the situation and the loss of respect he feels. The psychodrama, according to him, should continue in Portugal, hinting at further exchanges between the two parties.
