Sane's fury grows as Galatasaray bench him despite Turkish league lead

Fuming former Manchester City and Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane has told Galatasaray officials he is unhappy after being DROPPED from the starting line‑up. The German star’s mounting frustrations in Turkey come as the club sit top of the league and prepare for their next challenge.

Report by LUKE AUGUSTUS, ASSISTANT SPORTS EDITOR, September 3 2026. The story was compiled on 3 September 2026.

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, the 30‑year‑old winger made clear to club management that he is displeased with his limited minutes and does not see himself as a player destined only for cameo appearances.

Sane featured in the starting XI for Galatasaray’s season‑opening 2‑2 home draw with ten‑man Corum on 14 August, but was relegated to the bench for the next two fixtures, with Yunus Akgün taking his place.

He entered the 4‑0 victory at Erzurumspor on 21 August as a 65‑minute substitute, with Gala already three‑nil up. In the subsequent 3‑2 win over Göztepe, he was introduced with 17 minutes remaining in the second half.

League leaders but role unclear

Galatasaray sit top of the Turkish Super Lig ahead of Friday’s trip to city rivals Istanbul Başakşehir, but the exact role Sane will play remains uncertain.

Contract and past success

Sane joined Galatasaray on a free transfer from Bayern Munich in June 2025 on a three‑year deal, earning a guaranteed £7.66 million per year plus a loyalty bonus. His former Man City days saw him develop into a pace‑driven winger. In his first season he helped the club win the Turkish Super Lig and Turkish Super Cup, contributing seven goals and nine assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Following his discussion with the club’s hierarchy, reports suggest the atmosphere has calmed and no immediate departure is being contemplated. San hopes to regain his place.
