Seedorf invites Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to the Corinthians bench
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink confirmed that he has received an invitation from Clarence Seedorf to join the coaching staff of Corinthians, but he has not yet decided whether to accept the assistant‑coach role.
Invitation and link with Portugal
The invitation puts the former Dutch forward in direct contact with three players who have already played in Portuguese football: André Carrillo, Zakaria Labyad and Hugo Souza. Carrillo played for Sporting between 2011 and 2016 and then for Benfica in the 2016/17 season; Labyad, born in Utrecht, represented Sporting before moving to Morocco; Hugo Souza, 27, defended Desportivo de Chaves in the 2023/24 season before returning to Brazil with Corinthians.
Hasselbaink's career and possible impacts
Before arriving in Brazil, Hasselbaink stood out in Portugal with SC Campomaiorense and Boavista, scoring 24 goals in 38 games in the 1996/97 season, when Boavista won the Portuguese Cup. The success paved his way to Leeds United, Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea, where he was twice the Premier League's top scorer.
After ending his playing career, Hasselbaink worked as a coach at clubs such as Royal Antwerp, Burton Albion, Queens Park Rangers and Northampton Town, as well as having been part of the England national team's coaching staff.
The possibility of returning to active duty as an assistant‑coach at Corinthians brings Hasselbaink back to the international scene, now in Brazil, and strengthens the network of links between Dutch, Portuguese and Brazilian football.
Hasselbaink admitted that he intends to return to football, but he acknowledged that moving to Brazil requires careful consideration. The final decision remains open.
If he accepts the invitation, Hasselbaink will join Seedorf, with whom he shared the dressing room as a player, and will be able to contribute to the development of the three Portuguese compatriots at the South‑American club.
For now, the answer remains pending, keeping alive the expectation of a new chapter in Hasselbaink's career and in the link between Corinthians and Portuguese football.
