Athletic Club Faces 2026-27 Without European Competition

Athletic Club will start the 2026-27 campaign without any European competition. The absence removes midweek continental fixtures from the schedule.

The club came from two consecutive seasons that combined European matches with four domestic competitions. Those campaigns required a congested calendar and heavy player rotation.

Without Europe, the number of matches will drop and the remaining fixtures will be more widely spaced. The reduced load forces a different approach to squad building and minute allocation.

Head coach Edin Terzic must redesign the roster to suit the lighter program. The sporting director will also revise the player recruitment and rotation plan.

The lighter timetable gives Athletic Club an opportunity to concentrate on the league and domestic cup. The club can now allocate resources without the pressure of continental travel.
