Six Americans launch Ligue 1 season, Tim Weah leads Marseille

The 2026-27 Ligue 1 season begins on Friday, bringing the largest group of Americans ever to France's top‑flight soccer, a milestone for America’s growing influence on the sport.

Gio Reyna joins Strasbourg from Germany while Bryan Reynolds arrives at Rennes from Belgium, adding to the American ranks already featuring Folarin Balogun at Monaco, Mark McKenzie with Toulouse, Tanner Tessmann at Lyon and Tim Weah representing Marseille.

These six players raise the total of Americans in Ligue 1 to six, but the tally is provisional – there is no guarantee the number will stay the same beyond the start of the campaign.
