Sullivan eyes Adu record while Albert makes US squad

The Jüngste Debütanten since Adu are under the spotlight as Adu Sullivan eyes a record US debut while BVB-Talent Albert earns his first call‑up to the American squad. Both teenagers could rewrite history ahead of the upcoming September international friendlies.

Mauricio Pochettino has added the 16‑year‑old midfielder to his roster for the upcoming friendlies against Chile, Peru, Mexico and Canada. Sullivan, who plays for Philadelphia Union, will be available for selection on 26 September.

If he takes the field on 26 September, Sullivan would become the youngest United States debutant since Freddy Adu, who first appeared at 16 years, 7 months and 20 days in January 2006 against Canada. Adu remains one of only seven players ever to debut for the United States at 16, all of whom debuted before the turn of the millennium.

Sullivan's season impact

Sullivan has contributed seven goal involvements in his last five league games, helping The Union to register eleven scorers across twenty‑three matches this season. His market value is estimated at €4.5 million, making him the second‑most valuable player at the club and placing him among the top‑20 right‑midfielders worldwide.

Mathis Albert, the 17‑year‑old BVB talent, has also received his first US call‑up. He has not yet featured in the Bundesliga this season, but completed a full ninety minutes in the first round of the German cup and is eligible for both Germany and France.

Cole Campbell, the 20‑year‑old record signing for Elversberg, joins the squad alongside Albert, while Leverkusen’s Malik Tillman, aged 24, becomes the third Bundesliga professional named. Both add depth to the midfield options for the friendlies.
