Three Dutch in Liverpool's squad, League Cup clash against Chelsea

Liverpool and Chelsea meet on Wednesday evening at 21:00 in the League Cup at Anfield, with Liverpool under the guidance of Andoni Iraola fielding three Dutch players in the starting lineup: Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo for the next round.

With Virgil van Dijk as the pivot, Liverpool under Andoni Iraola hope to secure a place in the next round. The team also relies on the creativity of the young midfielders.

With Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong, the home side has a strong Dutch core. However, Frimpong is on the bench, meaning three Dutch players actually start in the lineup.

Chelsea will not give up easily. Both clubs faced each other in the 2024 League Cup final, when Liverpool won the trophy thanks to a goal from Van Dijk.

Line-ups and expected formations

The line-ups published by bookmakers show Liverpool with Mamardashvili between the posts; Araújo, Van Dijk, Gomez and Tsimikas in defence; Nyoni and Gravenberch in midfield; Ngumoha, McConnell and Gakpo in attack, with Koumas as a substitute. Chelsea start with Penders; Acheampong, Lacroix, Fofana and Gusto; Caicedo, Lavia and Henderson; Neto, Welbeck and Rogers up front.
