Traumatic bone bruise keeps Trossard out of Europa League tie

Red Devils player Leandro Trossard (31) is battling a traumatic bone edema in the heel bone, his Turkish club Besiktas reported on Saturday. The injury means he will not be available for the upcoming Europa League‑tie against Marseille, despite having scored last week in the victory over Erzurumspor.

Injury and Europa League‑tie

Besiktas gave a detailed medical report. “After the consecutive matches that our team has played in the recent period, our player Leandro Trossard, who after the match against Erzurumspor developed heel pain as a result of kicks on the heel, was examined by our medical team. After evaluations, MRI‑ and CT‑scans, a traumatic bone edema in the heel bone (calcaneus) was diagnosed in him,” the club said. The medical staff has started treatment immediately and the process is still ongoing.

The 31‑year‑old Red Devil had last Friday, in the 3‑0 win over Erzurumspor, scored his first goal for Besiktas. Due to the minor injury he must, however, miss the European clash with Marseille, while the club has not given a timeframe for his return.

Despite the injury, Trossard was in the starting lineup yesterday of national team coach Mark van Bommel for the Red Devils. The Limburg native played all six World Cup matches for Belgium last summer, in which he delivered two goals and three assists.

The Red Devils will face in the Nations League in the coming weeks Italy (Friday 25 September, away), France (Monday 28 September, home), Turkey (Friday 2 October, home) and France again (Monday 5 October, away).
