United's chase for Summerville hinges on Rashford's future
Ben Jacobs reported that Manchester United have made direct contact with West Ham United about signing winger Crysencio Summerville. The Red Devils’ approach comes as the transfer window remains open and any bid could be influenced by the situation of Marcus Rashford in the upcoming season.
United’s hierarchy are keen to add quality and depth as they prepare to compete on multiple fronts next season. While strengthening the midfield remains the primary focus, the club also seeks a top‑class winger, a role Summerville can fill. The club sees the winger as a direct upgrade on the flanks.
Summerville, 24, impressed at the 2026 World Cup for the Netherlands with two goals and two assists in four matches. He also recorded nine goal contributions in 31 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season.
United probe West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville after relegation
West Ham’s relegation to the Championship has placed several of their stars on the market. Midfielder Mateus Fernandes already moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £85 million, and Summerville has been linked with an exit. The winger is contracted with West Ham until 2030, giving the Hammers significant leverage in negotiations and the ability to demand a substantial fee. Such a fee could challenge United’s willingness to meet the price. United previously showed strong interest in Fernandes but declined to meet Tottenham’s asking price, allowing the London club to complete the deal. Michael Carrick’s side may encounter a similar hurdle with Summerville. If United secure Summerville, they add a versatile attacker to bolster their wing options. For West Ham, a sale could provide vital funds to aid a swift return to the Premier League.
