Vinicius Jr rebels after four‑match ban, slams yellow supporters
Vinicius Jr, the Brazilian of Real Madrid, expressed his displeasure after serving a four‑match suspension, saying “the yellows are always for me, I don’t understand”. The interview, conducted after a complicated night in the Champions League, shows a player in deep self‑reflection as his season proves difficult.
Limited statistics and performances
This season, Vinicius has scored a modest goal and provided three assists in ten matches, far from the level that had him flirting with the Ballon d’Or in 2024. In the match against Roma, he was substituted during the game while the score was 3‑1 in favour of the Wolves’ club, before Real reversed the result to lose 3‑4.
Behaviour on the pitch and sanctions
The Brazilian lost his temper against Villarreal, pulling Nathan Saliba’s hair, which led to the four‑match suspension. In the same vein, he admitted getting angry after the tactical change, stating he always wants to help the team and be “angry at himself”.
Vinicius recalled that he has more than a hundred goals with Real since his arrival, but that he now feels the weight of the whistles at the Bernabeu. He emphasised that supporters, by paying for their tickets, should back the squad, citing the performances of Bellingham, Mbappé and himself.
The player also addressed the perception of violence towards him, stating he has never been violent towards an opponent and that he often suffers fouls. He compared his situation to that of Lamine Yamal at Barça and Julian Álvarez at Atlético, calling for a defence of different players.
Mariano Spitzer, journalist for DH and S+, relayed Vinicius’s remarks, noting that the player remains convinced of his imminent return and of his role as captain within Real.
