Werder loan signing scores against former Manchester United defender in MLS

In Cincinnati an unusual duel awaits: Werder loan player and former Manchester United star Tyrell Malacia, who has been without a club since the summer, is set to join MLS club FC Cincinnati and face Werder Bremen loanee Julián Malatini there. The Dutchman, whose transfer to the Red Devils in 2022 for €15 million fell through, is now looking for a new chapter in the USA.

At Manchester United Malacia made a total of fifty appearances, of which only fifteen minutes were with the first team. In the Premier League 2 U21 side he played two matches and even scored a goal. However, his season was interrupted by a serious injury that kept him out for a long time.

The left‑back's move to the Red Devils in the summer of 2022 was completed for €15 million from Manchester United to Feyenoord Rotterdam. Despite the high price, the signing fell through because Malacia was injured after his first season and saw little playing time.

Since the summer Malacia has been without a club and has not yet signed a new contract. He has now found a new workplace that will take him on a free transfer.

According to The Athletic, the Dutchman with roots in Curaçao is continuing his career in MLS with the franchise FC Cincinnati. There he will face, among others, Werder Bremen loanee Julián Malatini. The transfer takes place without a fee.

Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference

In the Eastern Conference Cincinnati sit in ninth place with thirty‑two points after four matches. The team is fighting for a playoff spot.
