Wesley’s injury sidelines him as Ancelotti summons Vanderson for Brazil friendlies
Wesley, the Roma right‑back, suffered a right‑thigh muscle strain and was dropped from the Brazil squad, while Carlo Ancelotti immediately called up Monaco’s Vanderson as his replacement for the upcoming friendlies against Australia and India.
Injury and recovery
The injury was diagnosed after Wesley completed the full ninety minutes in Roma’s 2‑2 draw with Inter Milan on Saturday 19, the fifth round of Serie A. He will remain at Trigoria, Roma’s training centre, to undergo treatment and recover before the restart of the Italian league.
Wesley’s exclusion marks the second time he has missed a Brazil call‑up through injury, the first being the World Cup after a setback in a friendly versus Egypt.
Squad changes
To fill the vacancy, Ancelotti selected Vanderson, a right‑back from Monaco, for the September 25 and 29 fixtures against Australia and the October 3 match versus India.
The same week saw Chelsea forward João Pedro withdraw for physical reasons, prompting Ancelotti to summon Martinelli from Fluminense.
These adjustments come as Brazil prepares for the FIFA international window beginning Monday 21, with the squad set to face the two Australian games before concluding the series against India.
