Westerlo releases Karol Borys, the Pole returns to Wrocław
The Polish midfielder Karol Borys, nineteen years old, leaves the Pro League club KVC Westerlo on a free basis to join Śląsk Wrocław. He will sign a three‑year contract that runs until mid‑2029, marking his return to the training club.
Karol Borys had been recruited by Westerlo in early 2024 from Śląsk Wrocław, for a transfer valued at two million euros. His integration did not take off, and he was loaned to Maribor in Slovenia for two seasons.
Return to the training club
The player returns to Śląsk Wrocław, where he began his professional career at sixteen. The club announced his return on social media with the simple message “Welcome home”.
This season, Borys has played only ten minutes, after just four appearances in total for Westerlo. His loan to Maribor did not change the situation, and injuries have heavily limited his first half‑season.
In total, he has featured in thirty‑two matches with the Campinois, including a brief cameo against Union, but he was not selected for the other games. His stint at Westerlo therefore did not allow him to establish himself as a starter.
Transfer conditions
The transfer is completed free of charge, but Westerlo wishes to include a percentage on any future resale as well as performance‑related bonuses in the contract. The signed contract runs until mid‑2029, offering the player stability and playing time.
According to the Polish media outlet SportowyNet, Manchester United and Fiorentina continue to monitor Borys’s situation, demonstrating the ongoing interest of big clubs. The Polish club is said to have already entered advanced negotiations with the Campinois.
If the young midfielder finds playing time in an environment he knows well, he can revive his career and showcase the talent that had generated so much hope.
A positive development could allow Westerlo to achieve a nice capital gain thanks to the clauses provided in the agreement. This clause reflects Westerlo’s desire to remain profitable even after the free departure.
