Eredivisie

Willem II's attacking hopes hinge on Misidjan's fitness battle

🇳🇱

While Willem II searches for fresh attacking impetus ahead of their Eredivisie return, former fan favourite Virgil Misidjan is rotating his preparation in Tilburg. The forward, who left thirteen years ago for Ludogorets, now trains with the club and says he is open to a contract discussion.

Willem II's trainer John Stegeman sees Misidjan as a potential reinforcement but stresses a clear condition. The club is preparing for its official Eredivisie comeback, which begins on 8 August with an away fixture against Go Ahead Eagles. Adding attacking options remains a priority as the team seeks to avoid a slow start. Reuven Niemeijer also rotates his preparation with the squad, providing additional depth up front.

Misidjan first wore the Willem II shirt thirteen years ago before departing Tilburg for a stint at Bulgarian side Ludogorets. His return marks the first minutes in the club's colours since that departure. The forward now hopes to prove his fitness and earn a new deal.

In the season's first training match, Misidjan received minutes under Stegeman against amateur side Quick Boys, a game Willem II lost 1-2. Stegeman noted that while Misidjan's heart lies in Tilburg, his fitness is not yet at the required level. The performance offered a glimpse of his current condition.

Speaking to , Misidjan said, “I have a good feeling. If it comes to that, I’m open for a talk.” The trainer reiterated that a definitive contract remains undecided, with fitness being the decisive factor. The contrast between the club's urgency and Misidjan's readiness will shape the early weeks of the season.
