Wück's team gains flexibility and is seen as the World Cup triumph favourite at the Maracanã

In the shadow of the legendary Maracanã, where German teams once made history, national coach Christian Wück presents his further developed team, which according to his own statements counts among the favorites for the 2027 World Cup triumph in Rio de Janeiro. For almost two years he has been in charge of the DFB women, has made the collective broader, more confident and more flexible, and looks optimistically at the upcoming tasks.

Historical successes at the Maracanã

The Maracanã links the black‑red‑gold football history with glorious moments: twelve years ago the men under Joachim Löw triumphed at the World Cup, and in 2016 the women under Silvia Neid won the Olympic Games on the same stage. These two successes form the framework for the current goal, to reach the final in the mythical stadium again within roughly ten months.

Wück's team has already achieved notable results, such as a 2‑1 win over Japan and a 4‑2 win over Australia, with Melissa Kössler convincing with two goals. The 26‑year‑old striker, who has been under contract with Denver FC in North America since the summer, puts pressure on the established forwards and expands the offensive potential.

The defense benefits from new signings: Camilla Küver and Marie Müller have established themselves as determined midfielders, while Ena Mahmutovic lays the foundation for the future goalkeeper succession of Ann‑Katrin Berger. This lineup highlights the newly gained depth, which according to Wück emerges from the European Championship experience as a central lesson – a strong squad must offer more than just a top‑class starting eleven.

Just under 24 months ago Wück left the male youth business to devote himself exclusively to the training and development of female footballers. In this short period he has consolidated the potential of the DFB women faster than any of his predecessors, so a sustained collective progress is visible.

The DFB does not consider the current development impossible. If the team maintains the course it has set, Christian Wück and his national players, who return with ambition, empathy and enthusiasm to the long‑missed resilience, could be among the favorites for the World Cup in the summer of 2027 in the Brazilian Rio de Janeiro.
