Xavi’s late line‑up reveal causes unrest at the Oranje camp

Players express displeasure about the timing

Xavi explained during a press moment that he only shares the lineup late because he wants everyone to feel connected up to an hour or two before kickoff. “I like that, because everyone is then focused. I don’t know if that’s correct, but that’s how I do it,” he said.

Micky van de Ven frankly admitted that he would prefer to know earlier whether he will play. “I do like to know the day before if I’m playing, but we have to accept this,” he declared.

The Greek media, including Metrosport and Sport24, reported that the players are “not happy” with the new rule and that there is heated discussion both inside and outside the Netherlands.

According to the media, Van de Ven's remarks provide sufficient reason to follow the discussion during the mutual meeting in Thessaloniki on Thursday evening.
