Martin O'Neill and Robbie Keane vie for Celtic manager role
Martin O'Neill and Robbie Keane are locked in a direct contest for the Celtic head‑coach vacancy. Major shareholder Dermot Desmond met Keane on Monday to discuss the role. Celtic’s board scheduled a meeting with Keane for Monday evening.
O'Neill currently serves as interim manager and has already secured a league title. Keane stepped down as Ferencvaros head coach after a brief spell.
Keane, the former Republic of Ireland striker, is identified as the frontrunner for the permanent post. The board’s upcoming discussion will determine his candidacy.
Final appointment will depend on the outcome of the board meeting and shareholder input. Celtic’s decision is expected shortly after Monday’s talks.
