Académica Extends Sporting Director David Caiado Contract

Académica announced the renewal of sporting director David Caiado. The renewal comes as the club prepares for its first season in the II Liga after finishing second in Liga 3. Académica secured the runner‑up spot in Liga 3 this season. The second‑place finish guarantees promotion to the professional second division. David Caiado ended his playing career with Académica in the 2022/23 season. He was appointed sporting director of the Coimbra club immediately after retiring. Caiado remained in the role through the club’s promotion campaign. The club confirmed his contract extension ahead of the II Liga campaign. The extension marks his fourth consecutive season as sporting director. This will be Caiado’s first experience as a director in the second tier. He is familiar with the II Liga from his playing career. As a midfielder, Caiado played for Sporting, Estoril Praia, Vitória SC and FC Penafiel. He also featured for clubs outside Portugal during his career.
