Adrián San Miguel retires after final Betis match
Goalkeeper Adrián San Miguel announced his retirement at age 39. His final appearance came in Real Betis' last league match against Levante.
He explained the decision on Monday in a Cadena SER interview. He described the week leading up to the match as decisive.
Early in the week he met with club executives and director Manu Fajardo, a meeting he called clear and sincere. The previous week he met with the manager to clarify outstanding matters.
Mid‑week he felt a "click" and decided to retire, saying the choice sprang from his heart. He wanted to close the cycle that had brought him back to Betis.
He added that he has no desire to continue playing for another club and that the timing felt right. The retirement ends a professional career that spanned nearly four decades.
