France Announces Official Date for Eid al-Adha 2026

🇫🇷 4 uur geleden
On Monday 18 May, Muslim authorities in France announced the official date for Eid al-Adha 2026. The holiday will commence on Wednesday 27 May. Eid al-Adha, also known as Aïd el‑Kébir, will be observed for three consecutive days. The festival commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It is one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar. During the observance, Muslims will perform the ritual slaughter of an animal in accordance with Islamic law. The sacrifice must follow specific guidelines to be considered valid. The act symbolizes devotion and submission to divine will. The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three portions. One part is kept for the family, another is shared with relatives and friends, and the third is donated to those in need. This distribution reinforces communal solidarity. The official announcement provides clarity for mosques, schools, and workplaces to arrange schedules. It also assists businesses that cater to the holiday, such as butchers and food retailers. The date aligns with the Islamic lunar calendar, which shifts annually. Communities across France will mark the three‑day festival with prayers, feasts, and charitable acts. Public institutions may adjust opening hours to accommodate worshippers. The holiday highlights the cultural diversity of the nation.
