Ajax 18-year-old Kasanwirjo named on bench after new contract
Ajax have included 18-year-old centre back Kennynho Kasanwirjo in the matchday squad for Thursday’s game against FC Groningen. The selection comes a day after the defender signed a new contract with the club.
The call‑up marks Kasanwirjo’s first appearance on the senior team bench in his still‑young career. He has previously featured exclusively with the Ajax Under‑19 side.
Kasanwirjo has been a regular starter for Ajax O19, gaining experience in the youth league. His performances at centre back earned the attention of the first‑team coaching staff.
The Dutch defender, born in 2005, primarily operates in the heart of defence. His inclusion reflects the club’s confidence in his development.
Being named on the bench gives Kasanwirjo the opportunity to make his senior debut should the manager decide to bring him on. The prospect of a debut was highlighted in the announcement of his new contract.
If Kasanwirjo steps onto the pitch, it would represent a significant milestone for the player and a reinforcement of Ajax’s youth pathway. The club will watch his progress closely after the Groningen fixture.
