Alberto Aquilani to coach Sassolo as Torino eye Ignazio Abate
Alberto Aquilani is set to become the head coach of US Sassuolo. Torino have indicated they will appoint Ignazio Abate as their new manager.
The former Liverpool midfielder briefly played for US Sassuolo before moving into coaching. Aquilani later worked with the Fiorentina youth academy and Pisa, and guided Catanzaro to the Serie B promotion play-off final, where they lost narrowly to Monza. He was also captured during a Serie A match between Empoli FC and US Sassuolo at Stadio Carlo Castellani on 30 April 2017.
Fabio Grosso terminated his contract with US Sassuolo by mutual consent and is prepared to take over at Fiorentina. Torino grew impatient waiting for Aquilani and are now turning to Abate, the current Juve Stabia coach.
Other candidates mentioned for the Torino vacancy include Lecce manager Eusebio Di Francesco and the possible return of Ivan Juric.
