Allan and Halliday Predict Scotland's Tactical Shift vs Morocco

🇬🇧 3 uur geleden
Former Premiership midfielders Scott Allan and Andy Halliday say Scotland will alter its shape for Friday's World Cup Group C clash with Morocco. Scotland opened the tournament with a 1‑0 win over Haiti, a goal credited to John McGinn. Morocco held Brazil to a 1‑1 draw in their previous game. Allan, a former Celtic and Hibernian player, told the Scottish Football Podcast that Scotland will not line up in a 4‑4‑2 against Morocco. He expects striker Lawrence Shankland to drop out and notes that Ryan Christie entered against Haiti to provide energy when out of possession. Halliday, who has played for Hearts, Motherwell and Rangers, also anticipates a shift, questioning whether Scotland will adopt a 4‑5‑1 or revert to the five‑at‑the‑back shape Steve Clarke often uses. He points out that Scotland have five centre‑halves and three right‑backs available, and that Kieran Tierney’s quality usually forces him into the lineup. Both former players stress that Scotland must defend well if they lack possession against Morocco, as they did against Haiti. They argue the choice between an extra midfielder for ball control or an extra centre‑half for defensive cover will determine the team’s ability to protect its box.
