Switzerland national team departs for World Cup in USA
The Swiss national team spent a free day in St. Gallen following their match against Jordan. The squad will depart for the World Cup in the USA on Tuesday.
Switzerland defeated Jordan 1-0 in the final warm-up match on Saturday. The result marked their second consecutive win under head coach Murat Yakin.
The Swiss Football Association confirmed the World Cup travel plans. The team will fly to the USA on Tuesday morning.
Defender Manuel Akanji and midfielder Granit Xhaka are expected to start against the host nation in the opening match. Both players have been key figures in recent campaigns.
Goalkeeper Yann Sommer will lead the defensive line in the USA. The veteran shot-stopper has 117 caps for Switzerland.
Switzerland opens their World Cup campaign against the USA on June 18 in Kansas City.
