Angus Gunn released by Nottingham Forest before World Cup

🇬🇧 2 uur geleden
Angus Gunn has been released by Nottingham Forest three days before Scotland's opening World Cup match. The 30‑year‑old goalkeeper will wear the No.1 shirt for Steve Clarke's side at the summer tournament. Gunn will become a free agent on 30 June when his Forest contract expires. The club confirmed his exit after publishing its retained list ahead of the next season. He departs the City Ground after ten months with the Premier League side. The goalkeeper joined Nottingham Forest in August after leaving Norwich City at the end of the previous season. He made a single appearance for the club, debuting in February. In that match he replaced the injured Matz Sels at half‑time against Crystal Palace and kept a clean sheet in the second half. Forest also announced that Willy Boly and Stefan Ortega will leave when their contracts end. Striker Lorenzo Lucca is set to return to Napoli after his loan spell. Despite the release, Gunn remains in Scotland's squad for the World Cup, the nation's first appearance since 1998. Scotland open the tournament against Haiti on Saturday, with a 2 am UK kick‑off on Sunday. Gunn has earned 22 caps since his senior debut in 2023 after switching allegiance from England, where he played up to under‑21 level. He will compete with Liam Kelly and Craig Gordon for the starting goalkeeper role. Gunn played the full 90 minutes of Scotland's final warm‑up, a 4‑0 win over Bolivia, keeping a clean sheet. Gordon started the previous warm‑up against Curacao before being replaced late by Kelly in a 4‑1 victory at Hampden Park.
