Braunschweig outlines financing for costly BBL wildcard
Basketball Löwen Braunschweig announced a plan to raise funds for a wildcard that would keep the club in the Basketball Bundesliga. The announcement came after the team faced sporting relegation.
The club’s on‑court performance placed them in the relegation zone of the current season. Qualification for the league can still be secured through a wildcard.
Second‑division side Kirchheim earned the sporting qualification for the Basketball Bundesliga. Kirchheim, however, has publicly stated no ambition to join the top tier.
The wildcard required for Braunschweig carries a substantial fee. The cost makes the wildcard the decisive factor in the club’s league status.
Braunschweig disclosed the mechanisms it will use to collect the necessary money. The club expects the financing plan to cover the entire wildcard expense.
If the funding succeeds, Braunschweig will retain its place in the Basketball Bundesliga for the upcoming season. The club will continue preparations for top‑flight competition.
